Introduction
This is my first attempt at a saltwater/reef aquarium. I will be learning as I go, and doing plenty of research along the way. I am aware of the fact that some of the equipment I currently own is not up to par to run a top notch tank, but I will upgrade as fast as I can. I intend to purchase and build a brand new 150+ gallon tank and sump system in the upcoming months, and I am looking forward to the challenge of the project. Once I have all the correct equipment, I will start the cycling process and then be adding my current livestock to the new setup, and hand down the 75 gallon to my fiance to play around with. This 75 gallon tank has been my alternative to smoking since October 2015 when I gave up a terrible habit for a wonderful hobby. All advice you can offer me is greatly appreciated, but please don't bash me for having a canister filter, inadequate lighting etc... I am not the richest person by any means, but as I save up money that would have been used to purchase those nasty cigarettes, I will be upgrading what I can. I will however have top of the line equipment before I start up my new tank.
Prior to the saltwater setup, the 75 gallon housed 1 Oscar, who eventually ended up with HITH disease after having him for around 6 years. I admit, I probably slacked off a little too much in maintenance towards the end, which is what probably lead to his demise. Those days are gone now with the new setup, and I am constantly monitoring and maintaining the new tank, and rather enjoy myself doing so.
I always browsed the fish in the saltwater sections of my LPS while visiting for my 2 dogs and told myself one day I would own a saltwater tank. I have to admit, it takes a lot more time and money than I expected at first, but now I feel I am up for the challenge. I can tell already that it is a very rewarding hobby. Since start-up, I find that the tank is pretty much the new television at the house, and even all my guest can't seem to keep their eyes off it. My fiance and I even enjoy many meals in our beach chairs that we placed in front of it specifically for fish watching.
