A Faster App

As promised, there are some significant improvements to the speed all across AquaticLog, the app is faster and so is the cloud/web portion, all resulting in a much smoother experience. I appreciate your patience and good will, there's more work to do and the app should continue to improve over the coming weeks and months. Meanwhile, if you can - please leave a review in your favourite App Store, it would certainly help. Dmitry

Slowness

Dear AquaticLog user, In the last couple of weeks you may have encountered an instance where AquaticLog was either slow or outright not showing your data. I wanted to directly address this issue. Let me start by saying that all of your data is always safe and is not gone even if you have an issue with the app. All of your data is not stored on the phone, but in the cloud, which gives you an ability to access your logs from multiple devices (iPhone and Android) as well as from aquaticlog.com website. Lately there's been an increase in users and there's already over 3 million measurements taken with the app to date. All of this is a great thing, but it also puts extra stress on the server and also uses up a lot more memory for storage. I'm actively working on a permanent solution to this problem, it will include optimizing existing code and upgrading to even more expensive server. You should see noticeable improvement in performance as early as Monday, Feb 26th, but I'm not going to be stopping there. It is my goal to make AquaticLog blazing fast and deliver the best possible experience to my users. What can you do? First of all, please understand and have patience with AquaticLog. This is a project of love and dedication, I've been doing this for over 10 years, mostly working on it on the weekends and nights as I feel strongly about the service I'm offering. It will certainly help if you leave a positive rating in the Play Store or App Store as well as become a Pro user. As I had mentioned before, running this infrastructure costs a lot of money, I am not a big fan of showing ads in the app and believe that it can be funded by Pro members over long term. Here's to another 10 years! Dmitry

AquaticLog is 12 years old today

Today AquaticLog celebrates its 12th birthday. As an aquarist who made his first steps in reef aquariums I immediately knew that I needed a service to organize all of my measurements, water changes, dosing and much more. At that point in time the only option was using an Excel file and there were a few templates around. Clearly there needed to be a better way, so I put together the first version of the website, registered aquaticlog.com and went ahead with the first release. Since the first measurement on January 15, 2012, the service has grown to over 3 million measurements (3,165,662 as of this writing to be exact) and continues to support tens of thousands of aquarists all over the world. While the website used to be the most popular way for aquarists record their aquarium journey, things have changed once people started using their mobile phones. First slowly, and then, rapidly - majority of all interactions with AquaticLog are done through native iPhone and Android applications. Which is one of the biggest strength of the service - your aquarium profile can be accessed interchangeably on both mobile platforms and as many devices as you'd like, but you can always go to the website as well. Any long term AquaticLog user can attest to the fact that the app does not stop evolving. Every few weeks there's a new release, and each there you get a multitude of amazing modern features. Just recently you got the ability to search both products and inhabitants right within the app, look up their facts and add them to your aquariums. And there's a lot more coming. I try to talk about about some of the ways I use AquaticLog right on my YouTube channel @treasurecorals and invite you all to join me both there and Instagram. Here's to the next year! If you wish to do so, the best present one could ever wish for is to leave a review and rating in the App Store or Play Store. Thank you for using AquaticLog!

Managing other people's aquariums

For the longest time one of the most asked about features was giving access to your aquarium to other users without sharing your credentials (which you can do right now). This year I've been working on this feature and if you are interested - please email [email protected] and I can give you a beta access to it. This use case works extremely well for any person who is managing other people's aquariums or for family members that work on the same tank.

Inhabitants on Android

Welcome to the new inhabitants section in AquaticLog for your Android. Managing inhabitants has been given a complete overhaul, all your livestock is now grouped into groups (fish, coral, plants, etc) and you also have a dedicated wish list which comes in handy when shopping. You can also keep track of the species that have left your aquarium. Finally, you can look up species from the vast database of fish, plants and corals on AquaticLog right in the search field on your inhabitants screen. This feature has been months in development and I hope you find it useful. Should you run into any issues - please let me know and if you want to say thank you - a review in the Play Store would really help.
